Why does dux ask for Full Disk Access?
macOS keeps some folders private, such as Mail and Messages. Without access dux skips them and shows their size as unknown. Everything else works; access is optional. The Mac App Store version reads the disks and folders you pick instead. How to turn it on.
Why is the number different from Finder?
Finder often shows file size; dux shows space on disk and what a cleanup really frees. Clones, hard links and online only files make these differ. The details.
I cleaned up, but my free space did not change.
Files moved to the Trash still use space until the Trash is emptied. Activity shows what is waiting there.
How do I undo a cleanup?
Open Activity and choose Undo next to the action. Items return to where they were, as long as they are still in the Trash. Tool commands, such as Xcode’s simulator cleanup, cannot be undone. Removed cloud downloads download again when you open the files. More about Undo.
Should I get the App Store version or the direct download?
For most people, the Mac App Store. The direct download adds tool cleanups such as Homebrew’s and Xcode’s, Full Disk Access, the command line tool and Business. Free is complete in both. Compare the two.
I bought Pro in the App Store. Can I use the direct download?
Yes, without paying again. Open the App Store version once after buying, then open the direct download: it shows Pro from your App Store purchase and sets up a license key for you, within 14 days if your Mac is offline. How to move.
How do I restore Pro on another Mac?
Sign in with the same Apple Account, open dux Settings and choose Restore Purchases. Bought a license key on the direct download? See license keys.
Does dux upload anything?
No. Scans, history and suggestions stay on your Mac. Privacy and safety.
