How to remove the app, the command line link, the scan history and the preferences.

Updated October 2026

  1. If you installed the command line tool, choose Uninstall in Settings, General first. It removes only the link.
  2. Turn off Scan on a schedule (a Pro setting), so the login item is removed.
  3. Move the app to the Trash.
  4. To remove your history and cleanup too, delete the app’s data folder. It is named after the app’s bundle identifier. The direct download keeps it in ~/Library/Application Support/eu.provaz.dux/. The Mac App Store build keeps everything in ~/Library/Containers/eu.provaz.dux.appstore/; delete that whole folder. If you used the Mac App Store build, also delete ~/Library/Group Containers/KAQR932ZB4.eu.provaz.dux.shared/.
  5. To remove the preferences of the direct download, run this in Terminal:
    defaults delete eu.provaz.dux

The data folder holds the scan history (totals and the largest folders and files of each scan, not every file), the duplicate fingerprints, the action log that Activity and Undo use, your cleanup list and any custom sounds you added. Nothing else of dux is stored outside the app’s preferences.

The app is already gone

If you moved the app to the Trash before uninstalling the command line tool, remove the link by hand. Use the line that matches where you installed it:

rm ~/.local/bin/dux
sudo rm /usr/local/bin/dux

Optional: System Settings

macOS may keep entries for dux after the app is gone. You can remove them in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access, in Notifications and in General > Login Items & Extensions.
